Introduction

How can you strengthen your data security controls to ensure information security? What measure can your firm apply to ensure you do not fall victim to a breach of the Data Protection Act?

From the 6th April, the Information Commission will be able to levy fines of up to £500,000 for serious security breaches. The aim of the new powers is to strengthen the Commissions ability to enforce the Data Protection act and improve transparency and accountability of organisations dealing with personal information. With a number of companies falling victim to breaches continuing to rise, the commission hope their new powers will motivate companies with weak security strategies to shape up.

This one-day conference will explore the new powers, how they will be imposed and identify how your organisation can prevent information security breaches. UK and global regulators will be joined by practitioners and legal professionals to help your firm cope with the tougher sanctions and share best practice in information handling.

Featuring contributions from:

  • Suzanne Rodway, Chair, Data Advisory Protection Panel, Director, Privacy, Group Compliance, Barclays
  • Sally-anne Poole, Enforcement Group Manager, Information Commissioner's Office
  • Stewart Room, Partner, Field Fisher Waterhouse
  • Jennifer Dunne, Associate Director, Privacy, Barclays
  • Julia Palmer, Data Protection and Risk Officer, Hoares Bank
  • Helen Lord, Regulatory Strategies
