Credit outstanding in February fell by £95 million, to stand at £64.2 billion, 1.6% below the level a year earlier.
         

The proportion of balances bearing interest fell from 73.9% to 72.9%.

There were 151.7 million transactions in the month (3.6% lower than in January but 5.1% higher than in the previous February), with a value of £11.8 billion (6.7% less than in January but 4.3% lhigher than in the previous February).

The number of cards in issue at end-February was 68,683,000, relating to 58,042,000 accounts, 62.6% of which were active, ie had a balance outstanding.

These data have been amended for an increase in population and revised grossing factors since January 2007.

These data cover the world-wide transactions of UK resident holders of cards issued in the UK by all financial institutions affiliated to either the Visa or Mastercard organisations.
