Basic bank accounts

Basic bank accounts will normally have the following features:

  • Wages, salaries, pensions, benefits etc can be paid in automatically

  • Cheques and cash can be paid in

  • Cash can be withdrawn from cash machines

  • Bills can be paid by direct debit, by transferring money to another account or by a payment to a linked account

  • The last penny in the account can be withdrawn
  • Some banks provide features like a debit card (so it can be used in shops or to get cashback) and a cheque book.
