Credit Crunch

A situation in which investment capital is difficult to obtain. Banks and investors become wary of lending funds, thereby driving up the price of debt and making it more difficult to borrow. If a credit crunch is prolonged, consumers and businesses have less to spend which can cause an economic slowdown.
