Possessions Register
The Possessions Register was set up in August 1991 by the Council of Mortgage Lenders, and two major credit reference agencies, to record details of mortgage borrowers whose homes have been taken into possession by a lender.
The main aim of the Register is to prevent fraud, should a borrower try to obtain a mortgage without telling the lender that they had fallen into arrears on a previous mortgage, or had voluntarily surrendered their home.
