BBA statistics director, David Dooks said of the data:

"Meeting the original shared goal with HM Treasury, to halve the number of adults without bank account access, was not an end to the industry's financial inclusion work. Each year sees a net increase of more than half a million basic bank accounts, while at the same time, a proportion of account holders move on to other accounts, based on their basic account experience. Providers will continue to work in this important area."
