BBA response to DG FISMA CP on the possible impact of the CRR and CRD IV

The BBA has responded to the European Commission’s consultation on the  impact of the Capital Requirements Regulations on bank lending to the economy. In our response we concluded that post global financial crisis prudential regulatory reforms had impacted bank lending but that SME supporting factor had enabled banks to continue lending to small business, where they had an appetite to borrow.  Our response emphasised the importance of considering a simplified and  more proportionate regime for smaller banks operating in Europe and confirmed our continuing commitment to a holistic, properly calibrated capital regime.
