Standard Chartered Bank Apprenticeship Programme

Standard Chartered Bank in London has been running an apprenticeship scheme for around two years, in partnership with City Gateway which is based in Tower Hamlets and supports young people and women in that community and more widely across London.

The apprenticeships scheme inspires communities by creating life-changing opportunities for disadvantaged people, by providing them with the chance to earn while they learn in a real job, as well as gaining a recognised qualification (NVQ) and building a sustainable future.

City Gateway partners with employers to provide ongoing support to both the apprentice and the employer throughout each year-long apprenticeship placement. This includes regular mentoring meetings and formal skills training as well as assessments of the apprentice’s progress.

By providing places through City Gateway, Standard Chartered commits to the training and development of each apprentice through on-the-job learning as well as more formal learning opportunities, with the objective of significantly increasing the apprentices’ employability by the end of their placements.
